Billel Decherani

Billel Decherani works primarily with oil pastels and oil paint on canvas and paper. His practice draws from elements found in his immediate surroundings, shifting between the two places he inhabits: Médéa, nestled in the Tell Atlas mountain range, and Algiers, the coastal capital of Algeria, just an hour’s drive away. Each work is built through layers that are added, erased, and reworked, nothing is planned. The image grows through intuition and risk, evolving into something that, by chance, feels right to him.

Billel Decherani (b. 1995) lives and works in Algeria. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Algiers (2015–2020). He has presented two solo exhibitions: Out of Place (2021) at Bloom the Art Agency, and The Homeland of Absence (2025) at XBM Studio. He also completed artist residencies with both galleries in the same respective years.
