Christos Giannopoulos

The key word in Christos Giannopoulos’ work is memory. This concept permeates both his older and more recent works, as there is a common way of viewing and dealing with different themes. For example, the way a landscape is depicted does not show us so much the landscape itself through the artist’s eyes, as a possible memory of it or even a memory of a rather vague place. This is achieved through visual means, such as the use of color and brushstroke, the limited color range and the blurred outlines, which not only do not prevent us from seeing better, but, possibly, contribute to remembering better.

Christos Giannopoulos was born in Patras, Greece in 1981. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens, where he graduated, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and at the School of Fine Arts in Porto.

In 2021 he was recommended by the jury of the Combat Prize and in 2017 he was nominated for the Frissiras Prize. In 2014 he participated in “SenseOFcommunity #9: Forte Stella”, a residency workshop for artists and curators for site-specific artistic practices, curated by Silvia Petronici, and in collaboration with the Galleria Adiacenze of Bologna, at Monte Argentario.
