Emily Sofaly

Emily Sofaly (b. 1993, French/American/British) is an artist and writer who lives and works in London. Primarily working with oil painting, ink and watercolours, her contemplative works reflect on notions of self and female otherness through explorations of storytelling, mysticism, and dreamed worlds. Sofaly is interested in creating narratives and representations of femininity that are powerful and deeply attuned to the natural and spiritual realms. Her artistic practice is profoundly intertwined with her poetry, as both delve into her ‘inner landscape’ and express a strong yearning for this spiritual connection with nature and the unseen. She often uses her poems as a starting point for her works, transcribing the images they evoke onto the canvas and extracting verses for the titles of her works.
