Fionn Kelly

Fionn Kelly's work explores the natural world of northern California filtered through memory and a longing for stillness in Chicago. Having found respite in nature while dealing with chronic illness, Kelly uses the landscape to contemplate the truths of living. In these oil paintings, their distinctive angled brushwork and layered color convey the fullness and activity within emptiness. By manipulating scale—expanding simple landscapes onto large canvases and compressing immense skies and hills into intimate panels—they evoke the quiet, larger than life beauty of nature. Kelly’s stands as a meditation on the endurance of land and the persistence of the human spirit.
