Through his work, he extends his observation through a re-imagining of his immediate environment, allowing local experience and universal emotion to converge across the canvas. While portraiture and figuration often serve as a visual anchor in Holden’s work, it is the unfolding of complete settings such as lakes, distant mountains, towering trees, night skies illuminated by golden starlight that provide essential narrative force, expanding and completing the pictorial frame.
