Jen Til

Throughout her years of painting, Jen has turned to landscape to express feeling and atmosphere using soft, muted colors combined with dark and rich earth tones to create a visual space for emotion to reside. Inspired by art history, especially the 19th century Romantic painters, she has painted fields of earth, grass, sea and sky, soulful and expressive, dark and melancholic, layered with organic mark making. Her work, though rooted in landscape reads often like abstract states of emotion. At the core of her practice lies a search for the beauty in simplicity and images which will endure.

Jen Till grew up in New England, surrounded by nature. She experienced the raw beauty of the changing seasons from bright springtime to bleak, austere winter. Slowly her artistic vision began to grow. Jen attended Rhode Island School of Design and earned a BFA after which she traveled to New Mexico where she began her life work as a painter. Eventually settling in Seattle, Jen continues her practice surrounded and inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
