Peter Dalla Costa
Peter Dalla Costa’s paintings are based on his experience of having grown up in Trinidad and then subsequent visits to the country. He studied painting, printmaking and graphic design at Art College in the UK. He then embarked on a career in textile design creating designs and collections for leading soft furnishings companies in the UK, Europe and the USA. Dalla Costa creates images with a real sense of place that avoid being overly descriptive or topographical. Colour plays an important role in his work. He works in oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolour, charcoal pencil and crayon and takes photographs. He currently lives and works in London and has exhibited in mixed shows in the UK. Dalla Costa’s work is held in private collections in the UK, the West Indies, the Caribbean and the USA.
Peter Dalla Costa’s work is a response to the memory and experience of growing up in Trinidad. Through paint and mark-making, he searches for an image that is somewhere between representation and mystery. His subject matter is diverse. He utilises memories, drawings and photographs and is inspired by the richness of the Trinidadian culture. He works in his studio in London.
