Polly Judge is a British painter based in Margate. Drawing on family photographs, found imagery and personal recollections, she creates intimate, psychologically charged interiors that sit between the familiar and the imagined. Combining source material from film stills, period interiors, magazines and personal photographs, she constructs scenes that resist a fixed sense of time or place.

Her paintings explore the relationship between figures and their surroundings, where domestic spaces become both familiar and strangely unsettling. Figures emerge and recede amongst patterned surfaces, furniture and architectural details, while shifts in perspective and unexpected combinations create a sense of ambiguity. Narratives remain deliberately unresolved, suggesting moments of intimacy, absence and unease.

Working primarily in acrylic, Judge's paintings are characterised by loose washes, graphic lines and a muted palette punctuated by areas of dense colour and pattern. Through layering, reworking and allowing the original imagery to dissolve, she creates spaces that move between representation and invention, where the act of painting becomes as important as the source material.

Mostly self-taught, Judge's affinity for print and pattern stems from her background in fashion and textiles. She has exhibited at Southover Gallery in Lewes and The Lido Stores in Margate, and is currently in her second year at Turps Margate.
